"Waiting for months for an appointment and even after an appointment, is the long wait time in the waiting room worth it?"
I was inspired to start ProximaCura when we visited a South Asian country, and I became ill with malaria. I was running a very high fever and was in no shape to travel or visit a doctor. The relative whom I was visiting called a doctor, and the doctor gladly made a house call to see and treat me. This is a common practice where it is expected for doctors to make house calls.
Then in 2021, immediately after COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted, we visited a Central American country and to fulfill the requirement of COVID testing before entering the US, we called a local laboratory for COVID test. The laboratory technician came to our hotel room to do the COVID test. In contrast to this experiance, a few years ago when my primary physician decided to retire, I was searching for another physician here in the US. All the physicians I looked up were not accepting new patients and the one who was accepting new patients did not have any available appointments for three to five months. When I finally got an appointment and went for my annual physical, I was able to see the doctor for less than five minutes. It was very evident that the doctor was trying to see as many patients as possible.
After these experiences, I wondered if we could create a healthcare system that can be a blend of all the scenarios described above - the world best healthcare with house calls from healthcare providers. At ProximaCura, our mission is to empower individuals to achieve a healthy and happy life through convenience and affordability. We have developed a platform where healthcare professionals can offer their services by making house calls focusing on holistic health rather than quantitative healthcare. Patients can subscribe to ProximaCura and have access to healthcare at a fixed monthly subscription. When they subscribed to the service, they are assigned a team of healthcare providers who would check in with them on a weekly basis and will make a house call once every month. This arrangement enables continuous healthcare with a better patient-provider relationship. We believe this continuous patient-provider interaction helps improve patient health while providing greater satisfaction to providers without worrying about bureaucracy and insurance hindrances.
